I'm at a bit of a loose end really.

I always knew it would be tough to watch Maggie take her first steps (flaming large steps granted) back to the wild.
Oh I know its the right thing and all. I mean she couldn't live cooped in that cave forever. And now that Struan and Mairead are on the scene, well I'm more or less a bit of a spare whatnot at a thingummy.

Still I reckon I'll always have a place in her heart.

And that's the main thing isn't it?

Yeah.

Locked to the Order of the Phoenix

I can't keep flying with Maggie. It's not right. It;s not natural. She deserves the chance to be all a dragon can be. Wild. Strong. Magnificent. Above all, it's that time again. She is getting very broody.

First thought was to head off with her, back to Romania. It's a long haul, but do-able. And then I got to thinking....... what better place for a Hebridean Black than... well the Hebrides. Right here!

So the first thing I had to do was to get a licence from the DRCMC. Bit tricky that. I mean I reckon the Ministry must've heard about Maggie, from some of the interrogations, if nothing else. Maybe they did and decided against making an issue of it. Or maybe we got really lucky. In any case, I finally got the licence.

Hector MacFusty, over on Lewis has been breeding Hebbies for yonks now, but he's not worried about me setting up here. In fact he's offered me a young buck, Struan, who's about the same age as Maggie. It's always a bit hit and miss if they will take to each other - It'll be hard enough just luring the beastie over. So we'll have to wait and see.

We have loads of work to do before that. Well when I say "we", I mostly mean Bill. Because, as you can imagine, we need wards. Tons of 'em. And not the kind that a clodhopper like me can do either. No... really, really clever ones. So what with Bill already having two jobs, I reckon its all going to take time.

Basically I am going to move up to the Bothy on the High Pasture. The one that used to be the Grieve's place back in the day. What most people don't know about the High Pasture, is that it has a huge network of caves. Perfect for a breeding pair. Dragons I mean. So, basically from the Bothy to Beinn an Dubhaich and between Loch Cill Chriosd and Glen Suardal is going to be a no-go area, warded to keep the dragons in, and people out (although they will think they have been there). Like I say - clever wards of the type my big bro excels at.

The Order will, naturally, still have access. Order wands will be "registered" to the gatepost of the gate behind the Bothy, and touching the post with your wand will allow access. There will be a ward to detect dragon flight. If activated, the gate will turn bright red (from its usual green) You can still access. But I don't advise it. Especially if you are dressed in brown or have comedy antlers on.

oh well! Off to work! I'll keep you posted.

Cheers

Charlie

[OOC - there is some background info about Thorne and the caves in this post]

I've been over to see Fred. He seems very cheerful all things considered. Only.. well it's almost like he isn't accepting George has gone. I mean he played a daft trick on me, dropping a fizzbomb into my tea.

Merlin knows how he did it, he must be really good at wordless AND wandless magic, because he never moved. And then he roared with laughter and blamed George.

Anyroad, I don't want to worry Mum and Dad. Maybe you might "drop in" some time, so to speak? If only to prove that I'm not going barmy, or that Archie isn't putting something weird in the beer down the "Mucky Duck".

[Private]

Well can't keep hiding away for ever I reckon. Time to dust myself down as it were and get on with life. Whatever that means. Priorities I spose. Maggie. Poor girl hasn't hunted properly for weeks. Not since.... well since then. I've been getting carcasses shipped in but it aint the same. She knows something's up. Heh I almost reckon she knows what happened when...

Anyroad, onwards and upwards. Literally. I should've looked in on Remus and Harry but.. well.. I didn't think they needed my gloomy face around. Probably set em back rather than help.

Remus has apparently no memory of the past. Didin't even know he was a werewolf. I suppose I really ought to warn him about Maggie - but she's getting a bit exciteable, so I better head straight off. Hopefully he will read this.

[Friends and Allies]

Thank you all for your the kindness and sympathy over recent weeks. It's meant a lot to all of us, especially Fred.

I'm taking Maggie out hunting soon, so don't be alarmed. Remus, Maggie is a Hebridean Black and.... oh well I will explain later - nothing to worry about mate!

Later on, if anyone's up for a beer, I reckon it's about time, don't you?

Cheers,

Charlie

Like the wind moaning through the trees, only you could almost make out words. Like..."sorry"...."duty"....and............"Charlie". And..well it was almost like sobbing. Sounded a bit like.....but nahh...that's just daft. Probably just the wind and my imagination. Yeah. Must have been.
What in Merlin's name do you think you are up to? Don't even try to deny it. I know two are good with wards. That's why there was one specially set to alert me when either of you showed up.

The wards are there for a purpose you idiots! Two tons of flapping, flame breathing dragon to be precise. And you calmly dismantle them, as if you were letting out one of Mrs Figg's damn cats. Imbeciles!

Whichever one it was of you that thought it would be a good idea to dress up with that silly wig and wings and prance around pretending to be a harpy, in front of a dragon who's been specially trained to kill them, is both certifiably insane, and extremely fortunate to be rubbish at disguises.

But you weren't content with that, were you? No, you then decided it was a good idea to poke a Hebridean Black (blast range 30 feet) with a long pointy stick (length 10 feet). Blimey, if she hadn't just woken up and been confused by your tomfoolery, I'd have been taking whoever it was, home to Mum in a bucket.

Jumping in the sea was your only sensible move. Not just to put out the flames flaring up from your Sugar Plum Fairy outfit, but also to prevent my boot from making severe contact with the smouldering seat of your pants. Something it most certainly WILL do, if I ever discover either of you going within half a mile of that cave unsupervised.

Idiots!

Reckon they'd misapparated or something, but at least they hadn't splinched.

They were both suffering from exposure and totally exhausted, and Valerius has a busted up shoulder apparently, but they're in the infirmary now and Poppy reckons they'll both be okay.

Locked to Severus Snape

Sorry about the early morning alarm call, but you did say you wanted to know right away

Private

Blimey, what is it about this place and gossip? You'd think people might have something better to do, what with a war, and St Mungo's in ruins and patients everywhere. Who does what and to whom seems pretty small beer in comparison. Well to me at any rate. Just so long as it doesn't frighten the horses. Or dragons.

Never did hear back from Hestia about that Valentine. Maybe I got it wrong then. Pillock! Wonder who it was from? And the other one - from the 17 year old? Blimey! Imagine that! That would really get their knickers in a knot around here. Heh! I mean the pickle stuff and all that? Oh if only it is. So brilliant. I mean....

Okay, only one way to find out. And if it works, well...that'll be awesome. And if I'm wrong, then I'll be the biggest pillock since....Phil, the Prime Pillock of Porlock. Whoever he was.

Well here goes nothing...

[Locked to Hestia Jones]

Um... As it happens, I feel exactly the same. <s>Oh Merlin please let it be her, please let it be her</s>

Locked to the Order of the Phoenix

For those of you who wonder where I've been disappearing to recently, I've been off working on something I think you might be interested in. It's taken a long time to get it <s>almost</s> right, so I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up too much. I reckon though, that I've got it pretty much <s>as good as it is going to get</s> working as we need it to.

Essentially it is a way of dealing with airborne attacks. Specifically harpies. I'll give a full report out at the next Order meeting, but if any of you are interested, be on the cliff top above the caves near Thorne on Wednesday afternoon. Immediately after classes would be best, for those of you with teaching duties.

[Locked to Minerva McGonagall]

Minerva, I didn't exclude Lucius Malfoy from this, which was why I didn't specifically mention Maggie. If you don't want him to know about this, then I can always cancel and rearrange it for another time without inviting him. I reckoned that with him attending Order meetings, he would find out in any case sooner or later, and I suppose we ought to <s>appear to</s> trust him eh? <s>Merlin help us</s>

Oh and I hope you don't mind, but I need to use the twins in any action with Maggie. I know they can sometimes be a pain in the <s>ar</s> neck, but they are good lads at heart, and the best equipped to "ride shotgun" with me. Will that be okay?

ETA [Locked to Kingsley Shacklebolt]

Oy Kingsley! Happy Birthday mate - I almost forgot. Where's the party??

[Private]

Well the staff Quidditch team is coming along nicely, all things considered. Blimey, who'd have thought it, Remus is actually quite a good captain. We won't get humiliated, put it that way. Thats if the es-students ever actually get a team together. Still it'd be nice if Hestia got a game. She's...well she's really lovely.

[Locked to Hestia Jones]

Hi gorgeous! Great to see you on Saturday! Really enjoyed the picnic too!

<s>Would you like to go out with me</s>
<s>Would you mind if I</s>
<s>Could we</s>

Fancy going out for a drink sometime?

[Locked to all flying Weasleys (except Percy)]

Heh that sounds like a circus act doesnt it. But you know what I mean. I need anyone who can sit on a broom to help me with the targets for Maggie. Don't worry, you'll be far enough away. You just have to look out for fires and the like as she goes past. And make sure that no Muggles see us. Piece of cake eh? <s>I hope</s> I'd like to do this before the Quidditch practice on Saturday if we can. That's for those of us who actually have a team of course, eh Ron? Still you can go back to bed while the rest of us practice eh?

[Private]

Well I reckon I have figured out the way to get Maggie to attack. I got a bloke I know in the wizard photography trade to knock me up a couple of pictures. One was of me being attacked by a Harpy. Bloody realistic too, giving me a right blasting it was. I dunno how he makes them. Combined a picture of me with another one I reckon. Something like that.

Anyway I left it where Maggie could see it, and legged it to the mouth of the cave to watch. When she saw it, she tilted her head, gave out a great bellow, and blew the picture into oblivion. I've never seen her so enraged. The blast blew me clean off my feet!

So I waited until she had calmed down a bit, and then let her see me. She lowered her head and nudged me a bit. Knocked me off my feet again! But I could tell she was pleased to see me! Then, when she wasn't looking, I left the other picture there. This one was of a group of Harpies just rampaging around as they do. Once more I made a dash for the mouth of the cave. When she saw this one, the bellow was even louder, the blast even fiercer. Still eyebrows aren't all they are cracked up to be eh? Hopefully <s>Hestia</s> no one will notice.

So now what I need to know is....does Maggie hate Harpies now? Or just wizard photographs? Blimey i can't afford any more of those, so I reckon I need to try something else.

[Locked to the Safehouses and Allies ]

Any of you lot any good at painting pictures of Magical Creatures? I'm looking for someone to paint me a few pictures of Harpies. Big pictures would be best. They're for a <s>target range</s> bloke I know who collects them. <s>I</s> He can't afford to pay very much for them, I believe, but he would be very grateful.

Blimey, what happened? Did they turn this place into St Mungo's Annexe or something? I have to say I'm glad we are doing our bit, but the moment the word "bedpan" is mentioned, I am off!

[Locked as above, <s>especially Hestia</s> but not Mum and Dad]

If anyone fancies an escape attempt, I shall be at the "Glaikit Stirk" for some more traditional medicine in about an hour.
[Private]

Blimey I despair. Really, we expect to win a battle against evil, and we fall to pieces over a rumour. Lets look at the facts. Oh the hell with this, I'm going public.

[Locked to the Order of the Phoenix]

Right. I'm going to be direct, but somebody has to say something. This is just mass hysteria.

Has anyone, anyone at all, ever heard Severus use the "W" word when referring to Remus? Even when he is at his most snarky? (sorry Severus when you read this, but...well you are)

Did Severus' post look like the words of a man sitting with his feet up by the fire? Or someone in <s>mortal</s> dreadful danger, trying to get a message back to us.

And yet so many jump to the worst possible conclusion. Worse still berate Severus for his lack of tact and diplomacy. I've heard it all round the Safehouses, and not just from the students.

Wake up!! I don't know what's happened to Remus any more than you do. Any more than Snape does, I'm willing to bet. So can't we show a united front and stop all this nonsense?

If the worst has happened, then Remus is a hero, fighting for a cause he passionately and fearlessly believes in. And if you think that means that I don't care, then you don't know me. At all.

But are we going to sit around here sniffling and moping and fearing the worst?

Or are we going to hide our upset, put on a brave face, and set a good example to the students by showing our resolve that, whatever the sacrifices, (and we know from last time there will be many), that we will never sit back and <s>lick our wounds</s> be intimidated, that we WILL win this war.

ETA
<s>This is a long shot, I can't believe I'm going to do this, but you never know</s>

[Locked to Sybil Trelawney]
I don't suppose you've "seen" anything recently that might give us a clue as to what's happening with Remus?

Well as a diversion, I reckon that counts as a big success!

[Locked to Minerva McGonagall]

Well you were right of course. It wasn't exactly a stroll. But we did manage to create a huge distraction.

You should know that Harry got some minor burns and a little dazed as a result of the..err..distraction. And on the ground, MacMiillan took a Crucio for a couple of seconds. Fortunatley Visconti was on it like a flash and ended it. Good thing he was there really by all accounts. They've both been to the infirmary. <s>and now I wait for the "I told you so" bit</s>

[Locked to Ron]

I don't suppose I'd get a straight answer if I asked where you got that broom from eh?
[Private]

Blimey what a week First an Order meeting where old Snape suggests we cosy up to our esteemed Minister of Magic. Slimy git. Malfoy I mean.not Snape..although... ...Didn't go down too well with the assembled troops. and no wonder. I wouldn't trust that long haired nancy as far as I could throw Maggie. I just hope Hestia gets out of the Ministry as soon as she possibly can.

Helped Rolanda out at Quidditch practice the other day. Still managing to field a half decent team amazingly enough in the circumstances. Hope they get this Staff team thing up and running soon. I could do with a bit of a fly.

Talking of which...

[Locked to the Weasley siblings except Percy ]

I'm thinking of trying an experiment tomorrow. I reckon that casting Disilluisionments and Obliviates so that strangers won't see (or remember that they saw) Maggie <s>not to mention pre-emptive cushioning charms</s> actually does something to her ability to fly. Or at least to fly where I want her to.

Any of you fancy riding alongside me on your broom? Looking out for people and casting where you need to. It'd just be a quick spin around the island at first. Just to test and see if I am right. <s>And if I'm not, can you catch me?</s>

[Locked to Hestia Jones ]

Any more thoughts about the Ministry? Do you need to go back at all? <s>Please stay safe</s> I enjoyed breakfast the other day! <s> you are so lovely</s>

[Private]

Been quite a week. First off me and Hagrid built that chimney down at the old Hufflepuff farm. Did a good job though I say so myself. I expect Snape won't even notice however. And Hagrid got a new wand. Well to say he was pleased would be an understatement. He was like a ....thingummy with two whatnots. Which given Hagrid's taste in pets is not that unusual I suppose. Somehow I managed to persuade him to keep the wand away from the building site. I hear Remus wasn't so lucky!

Then I had a smashing night out with Hestia Jones. She is really <s>pretty</s> good company. Hopefully we can go out again <s>often</s> sometime. I don't think she got the reference to Ghoulies. Which is probably just as well.

And Maggie.... Well I think I may have got to the root of the problem. It seems it's only after I've used magic in some way that things go wrong. Like, although she's magical herself, someone in actual contact with her seems to disrupt the flow.....or upset her in some way. I need to ask around.

[Locked to Hestia Jones]

I had a brilliant time the other night. Hopefully you did too. If you'd like to, perhaps we could go out again sometime <s>very soon</s>? Are you going to the meeting on Friday? Although hopefully I'll see you around the place before then.

[Locked to the Order of the Phoenix ]

Just out of interest, has anyone ever studied what happens to magical flow when the caster is in physical contact with someone else? I mean I remember Professor Flitwick <s>banging on about</s> teaching us that being aware of, and directing the flow of magic was important. Is it possible that the flow can affect someone who you are <s>clinging on to for dear life</s> actually touching? Or,if not directly affecting them physically, iIf there was already a magical flow through them, could someone casting somehow affect this?

[Private

Well, thank Merlin we're back to something approaching normality. Maggie seems back to her old self again, and is very trusting and affectionate. I must say it rocked me a bit when she got all moody and snappy with me. I mean I should have expected it. Some of the adolescent females in Romania would be all lovely natured one day, and trying to flambe your rear end the next. But somehow I suppose I thought Mags would be different, that our bonding would make it easier. Just goes to show you're always learning. Still I reckon I won't risk venturing out with her for another week, just in case.

Which kind of leaves me at a loose end.

[Locked to the Safehouses and Allies]

If anyone has got anything they'd like a hand with over the next week or so, I could easily be persuaded, given the right offer!

[Locked to the residents at Thorne]

Anybody got any odd jobs need doing about the place?
